Cerrano Tower
The spectacular marine area of the Cerrano Tower is located in the Teramo section between two municipalities, Pineto and Silvi Marina; it delimits seven kilometers of coastline and completes a program of environmental protection and enhancement by complementing the network of underwater oases that have enabled the preservation, repopulation and study of the marine ecosystem. The name “Torre del Cerrano” narrates two symbols of the area’s history and identity: the Cerrano stream, which descends from the Atri hills – a protected area with splendid ravines – and flows into the Silvi marina; and the Tower, built in 1568 by the Spanish as a bulwark against Saracen pirates. The fort, which has been completely restored and is home to the Marine Biology Center, overlooks among the dunes, north of the Silvi Marina coastline. Torre del Cerrano has been awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS), a coveted recognition in addition to the Ministry of the Environment’s award for management efficiency, placing it second overall in the ranking of 32 protected areas. Strolling through Torre del Cerrano is to immerse oneself in greenery, to inhale the history of the land and its incredible essence. We discover an environment still pristine, with a flourishing fauna and flora that begs to be photographed.
